Ravenna Park Food Drive

A big thanks to Nic, Leo and Anna for heading up a Ravenna Park canned food drive. The trio will be pulling a red wagon around the neighborhood on Sunday afternoon, January 4th. Donations can be left on your front porch and should be marked FamilyWorks. The drive will last until January 20th, inauguration day. Hugh Sisley Properties

  On December 15, 2008 the Roosevelt Development Group with their land use expert and their community relations firm hosted a meeting for the Roosevelt and Ravenna Communities. On the table for discussion was the future of the Hugh Sisley properties, in particular the entire block lying immediately south of Roosevelt High School, and also all of the Sisley properties along NE 65th St and/or along 15th Ave NE and the Sisley-owned properties abutting them. Work Party December 13th

The weather promised to be nasty but the first winter storm of the season took a track to the north. George, Bill, Ann and I selected our tools and went at the blackberries, clematis, ivy and other invasives along Ravenna Creek just north of the soft ball field in the southeast end of the park.   The day turned out to be cool, but far from unbearable and we managed to get quite a bit done.     Volunteers are welcome anytime. Friends of Ravenna Ravine and Green Seattle Partnership will have another work day in Ravenna Park in January and in February... Ravenna Park Projects

You may have noticed the jute netting on the hillsides of the north slope of Ravenna Park. This is part of a contract project by the parks department. Ivy and other invasive plants were removed from the trees and the slopes between 15th Ave NE and 19th Ave NE. All of the discarded vegetation was hauled down to the service road and trucked out of the park. Ferns and other native plants were spared.
