If you believe that, you haven't been paying attention. The Roosevelt Development Group, their public relations hiree, and their attorney have been cozying up to the Roosevelt and Ravenna neighborhoods since the fall of 2008 when they contracted to lease the Hugh Sisley properties for 99 years. About two weeks ago the RDG met with the Seattle Department of Development (DPD) with a few questions about applying for a contract rezone of the properties owned by Hugh Sisley. On April 13, 2009 the city responded that they would like a "map indicating the parcels included in the proposed rezone,...

Marjie was out of town today, so I thought I'd grab a bite to eat at a place I hadn't been before. Cafe Da Pino's neon OPEN sign caught my eye and the parking was easy. This small cafe is crowded with 5 tables and two more outside. The room is mainly filled with a refrigerator case full of delicious looking sausage, cheeses, olives and other good things with which to make a meal. I'd read the menu in the window and then spotted the white board inside with the daily specials. The pepper and sausage sandwich looked exactly like...

At the April 20th, (3rd Monday of the month) meeting RDG brought Richard Weinman in to give a detailed explanation of the environmental impact study (EIS) they have hired him to do for the proposed development of the Hugh Sisley properties in the east Roosevelt/west Ravenna area. Mr. Weinman first explained that the city process for an EIS and EIS scoping lays out as follows: 1. A developer makes and application or pre-application for a project. 2. The city decides if an EIS will be required and notifies the developer. 3. The developer selects and contracts with the person who will head up...

The Roosevelt Development Group will host another meeting tonight at 7:00 PM at the Calvary Christian Assembly. They have held a pre-application for zoning change meeting with the Department of Planning and Development. Soon they should be making the application that will affect many of us in the surrounding neighborhood. Will they tell us what they learned from the DPD? Will they tell us what they're planning to do with the Hugh Sisley properties they've leased? Tonight at 7:00....

In regards to the Brooklyn Court Project: The project was approved, appealed and will now go to DRB for resolution of the western red cedar issue. Time and Place. That's May 4, 2009 at 6:30. Will these run down homes remain on the block with the somewhat sculpted tree, or will the developer be allowed to continue with this property upgrade, essentially planned according to existing code and height restrictions? Your input at the meeting is welcome....

The regular meeting of the Roosevelt Zoning Committee had two topics of discussion tonight. Jim O'Halloran, chair, presided. 1. Roosevelt Development Group (RDG) recently met with the Seattle Department of Planning and Development (DPD) to get advice on how to proceed with their permit application for the possible rezoning of the Hugh Sisley Properties. The RDG will hold a meeting on April 20th at Calvary Christian Assembly with a DPD representative in attendance to disclose, hopefully, something about what they want to do on the properties. Two parallel procedures will soon begin to happen if the developers choose to proceed....

It rained all night and on into the day, but that didn't dampen the spirits in Little Park today. The bunny was there and a multitude of egg hunters.

I started this blog last year thinking that it would be real estate centered, but have discovered that it is more involved with happenings in the community. Lately, with the shifting of the Seattle P.I. from a print based media to online only, there have been many discussions about where will the news come from, who will do investigative reporting, what is going on, and why did it happen. Will there be no one left to keep us informed in our neighborhoods? Who will pay the people that dare to comment on issues they see of importance in their daily...
