The Roosevelt Neighborhood Association met as scheduled last night (5/26/09) in the Commons at Roosevelt High School. Attendance was high (100+) as the main topic of discussion was the proposed development in the 65th and 15th area commonly know as the fruit stand block. Basically the populace  as a whole opposes the idea, but more on that later. Hugh Sisley and his wife were in attendance but did not make any comments.  One of the two developers was there and he responded that, Yes, he really did want and expect to get 160 foot zoning as requested. It wasn't just... Read more
On Tuesday, May 26th, at 7:30 PM in the Roosevelt High School Commons, the Roosevelt Zoning Committee will hold its regular monthly meeting with a difference. A large turn out is expected. Main topic for discussion is the recent application for zoning changes by the Roosevelt Development Group, a private developer, which has leased the Hugh Sisley properties for 99 years. Seattle's Department of Planning and Development is requiring an Environmental Impact Study to be done on the project. True to form the developer has found a way to forward the project without specifically committing to what they are doing and... Read more
You can make an important contribution to reduce the amount of storm water and pollutants coming from your property by incorporating rain gardens into your yard.      A rain garden acts like a native forest by collecting, absorbing, and filtering storm water runoff from roof tops, driveways, patios, and other areas that don't allow water to soak in. Rain gardens are simply shallow depressions that: ·         Can be shaped and sized to fit your yard. ·         Are constructed with soil mixes that allow water to soak in rapidly and support healthy plant growth. ·         Can be landscaped with a... This property on NE 65th near 14th Ave NE is coming down. Many old homes in this area have gone to seed through a misplaced sense of values and a total disregard for community. It's too bad to lose old houses, but when they are unreclaimable, let the track-hoes do their work. Hopefully the fruit stand block will get some beautification soon. Perhaps a park?  ... Read more
Back in 2007 the Seattle P.I. announced that a developer had leased many of the Hugh Sisley properties in the area around NE 65th St. and 15th Ave NE. At first it was hailed as an opportunity to clean up this crumbling mess. I'm sure when out of town guests turn off the I-5 Interstate they have to question the why's of this slum they're driving through. RDG has told us the landowner is in control and they are addressing the landowner's needs in the preliminary rezone request, i.e.,  the group is asking for buildings as high as 160 feet. They... Last week the Northeast Design Review Board was expected to make a decision concerning the fate of one (possibly three) red cedar tree on the site of the Brooklyn Court proposal for 54 units in four stories including some work/lofts/ and some commercial space. Originally Diane S. of the Department of Planing and Development okayed giving the tree the axe, but an appeal was filed, heard and it was determined that the Design Review Board should make the decision. "No,not us." The Design Review Board sent the decision back to Diane S. at DPD, she is expected to rule soon whether to... Read more

The Ravenna Park housing market showed signs of real life in April. At the end of the month one closed sale is reported and there are now 3 homes under contract. Some new listings promise to keep the activity on an upward trend. A pair of side by side craftsmans are now on the market just north of Cowen Park. The home on 14th is our closed sale for the month and the craftsman on 22nd is under contract. Market times are relatively short.  Click on the link in the header to see the details in the table.
