Work began last fall with removal of the ivy that had overgrown the small island. Some of the roots were removed then but much work remained. Bark was hauled in and spread over the areas that were completed and a few ferns, and some daffodils were planted then and look to be doing well.
Today was the first work party of the year and more roots were pulled and raked up. There were 4 stumps in the ground that are in the process of removal.
The neighborhood has received a grant from the city of Seattle for approximately $10,000 to pay for new native plants and other enhancements that were applied for. Neighbors contribute by volunteering to work and as the hours mount up the money is disbursed for the purchase of the new plants. If you'd live near the traffic circle (or not) and would like to be a part of this project, please get in touch with me and I will keep you apprised of the dates and times of upcoming work parties.

The neighbors on the north side of 65th on 17th would love to help with the circle park. It has been a very popular play spot for many of our children over the years. I would be more than happy to pass any information.
Regards,
Kelly
