This Saturday the Friends of Ravenna Park will be working in the shade, starting at the bridge where the service road crosses the creek and the tributary stream comes in from the north, clearing the bindweed off the plantings and pulling other weeds along the way. The forecast is for hot weather but that part of the ravine stays cool in the morning and should not be too bad with the sun rising later than last month. If it gets too hot we will quit early. The Friends of Ravenna Ravine are having their usual 2nd Saturday work party from 10:00-12:30 Saturday April 10th. If you can help out, it would surely be appreciated. The weather looks sunny but the work could possibly be muddy. George says, "We will continue removing blackberry and ivy up the road from the kiosk beyond where the tributary stream comes in from the north. Ravenna Park On Saturday there were 160 bare root and potted plants to get in the ground in the wetlands area around the stream and pond north of the softball field. Around 25 volunteers from toddlers to grandparents showed up to get the job done. The biggest turnout in a long time. Thank you all. On Saturday, February 14th from 10:00-12:30 Friends of Ravenna Ravine and Green Seattle welcome volunteers to help with the continuing effort of managing the flora of the park. Another community service opportunity presents itself on Saturday January 10. Volunteers will again meet from 10:00 to 12:30 to remove invasive plants and plant native species. Green Seattle Partnership sponsors these work parties and provides the necessary tools. Anyone is invited to join in this worthwhile endeavor, and especially encouraged to attend are the park's near-neighbors.
